Were you,

One of the first residents to move into the estate?

What do you remember?

What did you leave behind?

Imagine living in a 2 up & down, sharing with at least one other family. The whole block sharing an outside lavatory & water pump.

Suddenly, all your dreams come true. You move from the worst slums to a brand new kitchen house. (Yes! the oven was your living room fire, hence the name 'kitchen house'). You even had a loo on the backdoor step!

Over the years, Dovecot has gone through some bad patches. Despite this, vacant properties are much sought after. Much like they were all those years ago.

The POWER EMB area was originally called the Finch Hall Estate.

Schools in the area were named;

Finch Hall Colwell Road, Finch Hall Fincham Road,

Do you have any photos of the schools you are willing to share?

Ackers Hall Recreation Area
Had a crown green bowling green, renowned throughout the country.

It would, reputably, take an Act of Parliament to take Ackers Hall Recreation Ground away from the people of Dovecot.
